While I only started painting in 2005 in the UK, I have been looking at art all my life, and used to buy art on my travels, as those of you who know my home will attest.  I have noticed recently just how much cultural art I own – from different places and expressions and values.

The artists who have inspired me for different reasons are:

  • The Impressionists – for colour and freedom
  • Paul Cezanne – for form and depth
  • Frank Diebenkorn - for his careful planning of the structure of his work
  • Mark Rothko - for his extraordinary ability to evoke emotion
  • The Group of Seven - for their boldness and love of large landscapes and Big Skies
  • David Hockney - for light and ,space and his courage to continue to innovate all his life.
  • Ivon Hitchens – for his delicate colourful and wonderfully abstracted landscapes

In short, I suppose I am inspired by people who love the outdoors, its moods and expressiveness, and try to capture the essence in different climates, cultures and environments.
